"Blundering Success", 2010
11x15 in.
charcoal and pastel
This image is actually quite interesting, mainly because I think it is a successful failure and shows an insight into my drawing "process"
I wanted to try my hand at pastels (AGAIN) and about an hour into the drawing it was just looking horrible and muddy. Quite upsetting. I ended up trying a bunch of different things and eventually most of the pastel got scraped back to a point that pencil could work easily on top of it. At this point my only thought was trying to salvage the image any way I could.
2 hours later and I am actually pleasantly surprised at how well it turned out, considering where it was...
This image is a perfect example of my drawing process... because I have none Several people at one time or another have asked my how I go about drawing and it kinda makes me laugh on the inside a bit because I have no freakin' clue what I'm doing, heh. I'm sure there ARE people out there who have steps and procedures that they follow, but I swear each time I start a new drawing it is like I have to learn how all over again. I just try stuff and try stuff and try stuff till it works or I decide the drawing is non-salvageable.
roughtly 3 hour drawing

I love this drawing and It's nice to read about how it was created.
It's good to hear that someone so talented doesn't have a particular process- as I tend to make things up as I go along too.
